Nothing is more charming and whimsical than an alfresco English tea party, so it’s the perfect theme to incorporate into your Spring wedding. The great thing about this theme is its versatility; it can be kept traditional and low key, or made over the top and Alice-in-Wonderland-esqe, whichever suits you and you fiance’s personalities best.
Our Lake District location provides the perfect backdrop for a vintage inspired picnic-style affair, so we’ve created a short guide detailing our idea of a perfect tea party themed wedding at New House Farm. Read below for inspiration and tips on details such as dress, hair and photography ideas…
Your wedding dress is entirely dependent on your taste, however certain styles of gown really add to the tea party theme. Replica vintage dresses look really elegant and work beautifully with the kitsch decor. Lace numbers also look lady-like and romantic, and shorter, tea dress style dresses are really girly and playful.
Make Up & Hair
English rose style make up is perfect for this romantic theme – natural skin, a rosy glowing complexion, long lashes and pink tinted lips. This look works really well with most skin tones and is really easy to do yourself with only a few products.
Use mineral powder foundation to create a flawless base, then use highlighter on your cheekbones to add a soft glow. Apply blusher on the apples of your cheeks and the bridge of your nose and blend. Keep eyes simple with neutral shadow, and a few coats of mascara, then complete the look with a pink lipstick or rose-tinted lip balm.
Fairytale style locks are perfect for an English tea-party style wedding, so we really recommend tousled curls if you have long hair. Top-knots and buns also look really simple yet glamorous, especially with pretty accessories such as flowers or a dainty tiara.
Start collecting things like old mirrors, clocks, typewriters, teapots and parisoles by visiting charity shops on the lead up so you can build a pretty mismatched collection of items to use in your photographs. We’ve chosen some of our favourite examples below!
