5 Reasons to Book a Spring Break in the Lake District

With the Christmas and New Year festivities over and done with, many of us begin to feel the ‘January blues’ and start to search for our next trip away to look forward to. However, before jetting off for your Summer holiday abroad, why not discover the natural wonders of the Lake District in springtime with a break at New House Farm?

If you need some persuasion, read below for our top 5 reasons to ‘staycation’ with us this Spring!

1. Stunning location

Lake district break

We are located in the stunning Lorton Vale in the North West Corner of the Lake District National Park, between the villages of Lorton and Buttermere. There are spectacular Lakeland views all around, but particularly in February when the environment starts to come alive with the first signs of Spring – vibrant green fields, blooms of yellow daffodils and white spring lambs.

You can even take in stunning views from our gardens, such as Swinside and Dodd glowing red in the late evening, or that of Melbreak rising up at the end of the valley.

2. Luxurious accommodation

Our property dates back to 1650 when it was part of Lord Egremont’s Cumberland Estate Period. Original features now discovered include oak beams and rafters, flagged floors and stone open fireplaces. The house and adjoining barn have the splendour of an original cow byre, adorned with farming artefacts of a bygone era and are Listed Grade II. You can read more about each of our rooms here.

Outside there are 15 acres of open fields, woods, streams and ponds which guests may wander around. You will also find a hot tub in our garden, the perfect place for our guests to relax and unwind after a long day of adventuring!

3. Plenty of things to do

The Lake District is famous for its scenic walking routes, so we highly recommend grabbing one of our packed lunches and heading out on a ramble – no matter what your ability we can guarantee there is a walk to suite you. If walking really isn’t your thing, then we highly recommend taking the splendor of the picture-perfect landscape by renting a rowing boat at Derwentwater instead.

However, if the weather is miserable and you want to stay warm and dry, there are plenty of indoor attractions to take advantage of such as cinemas, a lakeside theatre and other tourist hot spots. Our luxury B&B is only nine miles due west of Keswick, where you can enjoy a trip around attractions including the Cumberland Pencil Museum, The Puzzling Place and much more.

We are also close to Cockermouth, where you can visit the home of William Wordsworth, take the Jennings brewery tour or just enjoy some retail therapy in the high street’s charming artisan shops.

Also, our location can’t be beaten for dining out – whether you’re looking for a sophisticated cocktail bar, a cosy pub for a traditional lunch or a stately manor house for afternoon tea, the Lake District has it all!

4. Hassle-free travel

Travelling to a different country can be a stressful experience, especially for families with young children. Also, airport check in, flight time and transport to your accommodation can take up a full day of your holiday and leave you feeling completely drained by the time you arrive at your destination.

In contrast, a trip to the Lake District only a car journey away, so you can leave your stresses behind and enjoy your holiday from the moment you set off!

5. Romantic

Nothing is more romantic than stunning lakeside views, candle-lit dinners, cosy fires, roll top baths and even a glass of bubbly under the starts in our hot tub. Our rooms are perfect for couples looking to get away from it all – for example, the Old Dairy boasts a Queen-sized, solid oak four poster bed and Victorian en-suite with a double ended slipper bath offering uninterrupted views from the window of Fellbarrow and Low Fell.

You can find out more about our rooms here.
